Vietnam War
Dates: November 1, 1955 - April 30, 1975
During the Cold War the United States and it's Allies were adamantly opposed to even ONE more country of the world falling into communism.
The Vietnam War was fought between communist North Vietnam and the government of Southern Vietnam. The North was supported by communist countries such as China and the Soviet Union. The South was supported by anti-communist countries, primarily the United States.
President Lyndon Johnson had the plan to help the Southern Vietnamese get strong enough to fight the North rather than having the US win the war for them.
Check out this video about the "road to war."
The U.S. military sprayed millions of gallons of Agent Orange and other herbicides on trees and vegetation during the Vietnam War . See the side effects of this yucky stuff in these two videos.
Comment on the blog: what do you find interesting (or crazy) about these videos?
Some crazy facts about this war to me would be that 1) the Vietnam war went on for 20 years and 2) it was the first war to be televised!
ReplyDeleteI found interesting that, when they sprayed the agent Orange the planes would fly so close to each other so they could get every little peice.
ReplyDeleteWhat I found interesting is that Vietnam became communist and America stayed friends with them.
ReplyDeleteWhat I found interesting is that the men didn't wear anything to protect themselves when they sprayed the agent orange. How crazy is that!
ReplyDeleteWhat I found interesting is that the result of Agent Orange caused many birth defects. It is sad to see. I wonder if the men spraying the chemical has the same negative effects as the Vietnam people?
ReplyDeleteWhat I thought was absolutely crazy was how many people the Agent Orange affected, and how much damage it did. I wonder if the U.S knew the consequences of using it before they did???
ReplyDeleteI find it crazy how Agent Orange was even created! It must be pretty toxic stuff to kill every kind of plant over night! It is really sad how all those jungles were lost! If you think about it, not only was the plant life hurt, but all the insects, and animals that lived in the forests lost their home and many even their lives! :(
ReplyDeleteI think it's crazy that the agent orange was so destructive! It's terrible that there are so many children with birth defects and problems. It's also crazy that the USA isn't taking responsibility for it! I find that awful. We should help!
ReplyDeleteAlso, why is it called agent orange if it's white?
Deletei totally agree with that
DeleteI think its crazy that we (Americans) think we help other countries. but then we do something like Agent Orange and give thousands of people birth defects. its the same when we invaded Cuba. we look at Japan and think why would they do that. and then we went and did the exact same thing to Cuba that Japan did to us. :(
ReplyDeleteI thought it was interesting how the Agent Orange stuff effected even the grandchildren who were not exposed to it, its amazing how someone who was exposed of it has generations of defected children when only they were exposed to it, weird :P
ReplyDeleteI think its interesting at first that France took over Vietnam for its supplies, and the Vietnamese people got angry and called for the US to help.
ReplyDeleteI was surprised by the fact that Lyndon Johnson stopped sending troops and refused to run for another term because of Vietnam.
